Sievert's Kota
Submitted by Chuck Sievert

This
is a short story of how loyal a German Shepherd is. In 1998, my wife was
in the barn which is about 150 feet from our house. She was
feeding the horses and taking care of the other
animals when she noticed a strange dog next door,
barking and growling. Now, Kota is one of our German Shepherd dogs.
He is now a 4yr. old male, that has never showed the smallest bit of
aggression towards anything. My wife
kept telling me that he would not protect anything,
he was too nice! Since we live in the country on a farm, we get some
pretty nasty visitors, of the four legged type, and our nice little
German Shepherd lets pretty much anything go. But that
morning things changed, and changed in a hurry. Our
2 year old son was riding a scooter in the driveway.
My wife looked out the barn and saw this strange dog making a bee-line
towards our son. The dog was in full stride, growling, going after little
Austin. My wife knew she could not reach him in time, and the only thing
she could think of was to get to Kota's kennel and let him out. About 5
feet from Austin, Kota intercepted this wild beast of a dog
and took care of business. This just goes to show
you, even the nicest of dogs can and will protect
their family members. We thank Kota, for the results could have been
devastating.
