Untamed Love for my Dog (Abby)
Submitted by Shannon, 11 years old
LI, New York

This is my story about the best dog in the whole world. Christmas of 1997 my parents told me they had a big surprise for my brother and I. They took us into the den and there was Abby jumping out of a basket, coming straight for me. She was a fluffy adorable sight. Abby was only 6 weeks old. My parents BEGGED the breeder to let us have her for Christmas Eve. We have been best friends ever since that morning. Abby is the most intelligent human-like animal I have ever encountered. I have taught her hide and seek, ballet, and her favorite is basketball. When she hears the ball bounce she goes wild. She jumps and tries to knock the ball away from us. She is a great defensemen. Abby understands everything we say. She also talks to us. She has different barks for different needs.

When I was in 4th grade I was given the opportunity to write an article for a major New York newspaper. I chose to write about the relationship between me and Abby. Everything I said came from my heart. I have so much love for Abby and she has for me as well. She greets me from the bus everyday. She wakes me with kisses every morning. She is always there when you need a friend.

I have had other dogs, but none can compare to Abby. She is truly human.

I would also like to say that the German Shepherd breed is the best breed. They are highly intelligent, completely loyal, very calm, they wouldn't hurt anyone unless they felt threatened. They would give their life to protect their loved ones. Their love is truly unconditional.

I don't know why they even make any other dog.
